We are working with the REAN Foundation to develop a chat bot that will make it easier for users to receive real‑time information about their eye condition, access post‑operative care information as well as learn about risky behaviors after surgery. The technological expertise of REAN team has helped us to create a platform through which users will be able to upload images on WhatsApp and obtain medical advice remotely. This intelligent bot will be trained by expert physicians from LVPEI to provide 24x7 screening service that will help in detecting potential problems and facilitate access to care providers.

L V Prasad Eye Institute LVPEI) is a comprehensive eye care facility and a prestigious World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Prevention of Blindness. The Institute is dedicated to modern eye care by providing services like vision rehabilitation, rural & community eye health, eye banking and education & research. With 264 eye care centers, LVPEI has 35 years of excellence in eye care, serving over 34 million people, providing 50% of services free of cost.

The Challenge

50% of all corneal transplants fail within the first year, either due to lack of follow‑up or due to complications such as infections. Eye‑care continues to be restrictive due to a variety of reasons, including:
Lack of timely access to doctors to identify and rectify problems
Heavy dependence on physical check‑ups
Limited healthcare resources
Absence of an accompanying caretaker
Travel and financial constraints for the patients

The Solution

LVPEI is collaborating with REAN Foundation to build a machine learning model to automatically detect problems post corneal transplant surgery and facilitate access to care providers through a bot. The easy‑to‑use REAN HealthGuru chat bot will allow patients to:
Upload eye images and receive real‑time information about the condition
Easily access post‑operative care information
Learn about post‑surgical risky behaviors
Receive automated medication reminders
Receive notifications about doctor appointments
